Jeca and Meda are in love. They have been in love for thirteen years, sincerely and completely. Jeca wants them to get married so that they could love each other even more. Мeda does not want them to get married at all so that they would not love each other less later on. Five minutes before their appointment at the registrar’s office, the two of them reach a compromise – in those five minutes they will pretend to be married and see how well they do, and then decide.
By using this simple, funny plot, Milos Radovic has masterfully played with archetypal situations that a male-female relationships bring. The author succeeds in doing the impossible – dividing the blame and merit equally, while artfully and carefully walking the thin line between a dynamic comedy and gentle monodrama.
All of it would not be half as funny or entertaining if these two were not incurably attached to each other. In the end, CANARY SOUP is a play about love.
